With more than eighteen (18) active years of hands-on experience and knowledge in managing governance programs through various lead roles (from coordinator through country manager to regional advisory) on donor funded initiatives involving high level institutional support and collaboration on diverse sectorial themes: active citizens participation in governance, public finance management, parliamentary oversight, civil society advocacy, extractives governance, environment and climate change, local governance, human rights and justice administration. Trained as a Development Economist with a background in Agriculture and Natural Resource Policy & Management, he is well versed in contemporary development dynamics with his core competencies in Policy Formulation & Analysis; Project Design, Planning and Implementation; Campaign & Advocacy; Training & Facilitation; Monitoring & Evaluation; Human Capacity & Institutional Reform; Development Planning and Management; as well as Community Development Interventions.

Trained as a Geologist with background in Mineral Economics and Natural Resource Policy & Management, he has experience and knowledge in managing governance programmes through various lead roles (from program officer through manager to regional advisory) on donor funded initiatives involving high level institutional support and collaboration on diverse sectorial themes: public finance management, civil society campaigns and advocacy, extractives governance, environment and climate change, local governance, human rights and active citizens participation in governance.

He has successfully garnered a wealth of experience working in diverse areas such as economic development, climate change, taxation, social accountability, rural development, agriculture sustainability, and monitoring and evaluation. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Economics from the University for Development Studies.

Alex Ampaabeng

Alex has 17 years of experience and knowledge in accounting, finance, fiscal policy and economics. He worked as a finance officer at NHS England before teaching economics, accounting and finance modules at universities in the U.K

Alex has 17 years of experience and knowledge in accounting, finance, fiscal policy and economics. He worked as a finance officer at NHS England before teaching economics, accounting and finance modules at universities in the U.K., including Birmingham City University, the University of Coventry, the University of Warwick and the University of Birmingham. Prior to joining ACT Africa, he served as a fiscal policy specialist for Oxfam in Ghana, where he worked closely with Ghana’s Ministry of Finance providing tax and fiscal policy input to the country's annual national budget. He established the ‘Tax Strategy Team’ and the ‘CSO Budget Forum’ at Oxfam to mobilize civil society organizations (CSOs) and engage Ghana’s government in national tax policies and the country’s budget. In 2018, he founded a weekly radio and national TV show, Ghana Tax Dialogue. He has presented at high-level events organized by the UN, the IMF, the World Bank, OECD and ECOWAS. He remains a key voice on the country’s tax, fiscal policy and broader economic issues. Alex holds a Ph.D. in accounting and finance (specializing in taxation), an M.B.A. in financial management, an M.Sc. in accounting and finance, and a PGCE in business.
